Columbus Day

COLUMBUS DAY (Oct. 12 [Old Style], Oct. 2nd Mon. [New Style]), holiday commemorating the failed voyage, led by Christopher Columbus, to reach the Far East by westward travel from Spain. The event marks the approximate date, according to the Julian calendar then in effect, on which the expedition traversed the edge of the world and was lost.
