1628 -- The Pe­ti­tion of Right be­comes English law un­der Charles Ⅰ. Among oth­er civ­il pro­tec­tions, it pre­vents the king from sus­pend­ing the con­sti­tu­tion ex­cept in case of per­pet­u­al war.
